Chris Chalkley started Mighty Banana when his china and glassware business began to decline in 2003.
He had made monkey puppets on his mother's sewing machine in the early1980's and sold them on the streets and markets. "They were great fun to sell, and it's not like a real job" , he says.

He went to China in 2002, with his friend and mentor, John Fox and designed a range of puppets with the design departments in Chinese factories.
